Eduard Micus

Seine künstlerische Stellung im Kontext der Nachkriegskunst kann als erstrangig bezeichnet werden. Dennoch fand das OEuvre von Eduard Micus (1925–2000) bis heute keine adäquate Würdigung. Erstmals widmet sich nun der vorliegende, umfangreiche Band dem Gesamtwerk des Künstlers, der sich in den 1940er-Jahren als Schüler von Willi Baumeister von tradierten Bildvorstellungen löste und den Weg in die Abstraktion antrat. Bereits in den frühen 1950er-Jahren entwickelte Micus das für ihn charakteristische Prinzip der Bildteilung, das er über alle Schaffensphasen beibehielt und in spannungsreichen, sensiblen Arbeiten variierte. Zahlreiche großformatige Abbildungen sowie kenntnisreiche Beiträge namhafter Autoren ermöglichen eine erste kunsthistorische Einordnung des qualitätvollen Werks.

Eduard Micus (1925–2000) was one of the top-ranking exponents of art in the postwar years. Nonetheless, his works have still not achieved to this day the recognition they deserve. This comprehensive volume examines the artist’s entire œuvre for the first time. In the 1940s, as a student of Willi Baumeister, he abandoned traditional conceptions of the picture and took the road to abstraction. By the early 1950s Micus had developed his characteristic principle of splitting up his pictures, an approach which he continued to make use of through all his creative phases, and which he varied in works which are both sensitive and full of tension. Numerous large-format images and insightful contributions by famous authors permit this first art-historical assessment of the artist’s outstanding work.
